However, the discovery process can be avoided by changing your connection string or by specifying details in the ADS.INI file. By specifying a port number in the connection string the Advantage communication layer will not try to discover the server instead it will attempt direct communication to the specified server on the specified port. I connect with SQL Server(MSDE) database using ADO(Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers).Durnig compilation occured exception 'Could not convert variant of type (Null) into type (String)'. What's causing that problem? Sorry for my English:)--- posted by geoForum on delphi.newswhat.com.
I'm currently evaluating the Medisoft v15 demo version, and have been unsuccessfully attempting to access its data in Microsoft Access through the Advantage ODBC driver. Through my trials it appears that the default username/password combo that I've found on various forums and support sites doesn't have read access to the tables. Is this a change in v15, or would this be due to the fact that I'm using the demo version? If this is a v15 specific change, is there a way to access that data outside of Medisoft through a different username/password? Any help on this topic would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, -Scott. Gavin, Thanks for your quick reply.
I'm still having trouble actually viewing the data in the Medisoft database tables. I created a user called TEST1 with level 1 access and have been using that in access. When I choose the data dictionary file inside of my practice's folder, the list of Link Tables in access appears empty. If I attempt to connect to the mwddf.add file in my main MediData directory I get an access error with TEST1. I can, however, use the user/password combo and see a list of the tables. If I try to link one such as ohapp, I get an error that states 'The Microsoft Office Access database engine could not find the object 'OHAPP'.
' I decided to take access out of the mix and attempt to access the data with the Advantage Data Architect that I saw on their support website. I'm experiencing the same issues with that whether I login as my new TEST1 user (which has level 1 access) or the old 'user ' user. I've tried doing a simple select.
from ohapp command and get the following error: poQuery: Error 7200: AQE Error: State = HY000; NativeError = 7079; iAnywhere SolutionsAdvantage SQLASA Error 7079: Cannot open table or view because the user does not have read rights to the table or view. Table name: ohapp Is this something that a level 1 user should normally be able to do? I see other users listed in the data architect program such as HL7User, MediUser, Secure, etc. Should I be using one of these users instead to get access to these tables? Thanks for any help you can provide, -Scott.
I think you need the security patch which can be found on this Medisoft knowledgebase article: LINK REMOVED I double checked Advantage's Developer Zone but I don't see the LinkTable download anymore. This was an Access Database form that allowed you to link an ODBC table and pass the username and password in the linkage. This is required for Medisoft data since version 10. I happen to still have a copy of this utility so maybe I'll post it to my website when I get a chance. When I am working directly with Medisoft data, sometimes I use Microsoft Access, but I almost always reach for ARC32 first. The old Medisoft knowledgebase is completely gone now, so I removed the link.
Unfortunately, the MWSTRTS utility did not come out until Medisoft v15 so it would not work with Medisoft v12. You will need to work with a Medisoft reseller who can repair your data. We currently charge $200 to do that.
There is a pretty good chance though that your database will convert up to v18 even with incorrect Advantage user access rights. If you still have problems, the utility MWSTRTS is available with version 18. You could install a 30-day trial of Medisoft v18 on a test computer to see if this will work.
Do not install on a live v12 database because there is no unconvert back to v12 after you are done evaluating. Install Medisoft Advanced and it will run for 30 days without requiring a registration code. About us Walker Tek Solutions, LLC (MedTech) is managed by Gavin Walker, CEO.
